OUR HISTORY

Rooted in Conservation Since 1985

Established in 1985 the Toboggan Creek Hatchery has been operated by the Toboggan Creek Salmon & Steelhead Enhancement Society, a non-profit organization.

The Society is overseen by a volunteer board of directors, made up primarily by farmers, landowners and stakeholders, most of whom are from the Evelyn Valley (12km west of Smithers BC.)

OUR PURPOSE

Enhancing Ecosystems, Supporting Fish

At the Toboggan Creek Salmon and Steelhead Enhancement Society (TCSSES), we are committed to the preservation and enhancement of salmon and steelhead species within our local watersheds.

Our purpose includes →

Enhance salmon & steelhead species within our regional watershed through the development of incubation and rearing facilities, stream improvement, and other methods of enhancement.

Act as contractor to other agencies for the development and/or construction of salmon and steelhead enhancement projects

Enlarge the local employment base by undertaking salmon and steelhead projects

Receive contributions and donations intended for salmon and steelhead enhancement

Maintain the area from the Toboggan Creek water intake to the lower end of the rearing channels by eliminating obnoxious weeds, clearing of underbrush, seeding open areas into grass and collection of debris.

Develop in our community and in particular our youth a sense of community awareness, purpose and responsibility.

Cooperate with other local agencies and associations in realizing common objectives and orderly promotion of the area.
