Our Programs

Making a Difference, One Fish at a Time
Strengthening Ecosysthems Through Our Activities
At Toboggan Creek Fish Hatchery, we are committed to enhancing and protecting wild salmon populations through innovative conservation programs. Our programs focus on supporting the local ecosystem, educating the community, and promoting sustainability for future generations. Here are the core programs that drive our mission:
OUR ACTIVITIES
The TCSSES has operated the CEDP hatchery for almost 40 years under contract to the Salmon Enhancement Program (SEP) and, in the past, the BC Government. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has used Toboggan Creek as a coho salmon exploitation, ocean distribution and survival indicator or key stream site since the late 1980’s.

Hatchery Production
Producing adipose-clipped and Coded Wire Tagged (CWT) Toboggan Creek coho salmon to the yearling stage..
Salmon
Education
Offering tours of the hatchery and grounds to school groups and the general public to foster salmon education.
Partnership
with DFO
Assisting in the operation of Rotary Screw Traps to sample out-migrating juvenile (smolt) wild and hatchery coho.
Salmon Viewing Opportunities
Maintaining a trail system along the creek for public viewing of the salmon during key seasons.
Adult Fish Monitoring
Supporting the operation of an adult fence to accurately count the return of both wild and hatchery coho adults to the creek.
